Most people are familiar with the importance of having a healthy and active immune system, but sometimes the body gets confused, and starts to fight healthy cells the same way it does toxins and other things that cause illness. This can be dangerous and make us feel sick even without the presence of an intruding illness. Due to the nature of autoimmune disorders, they can be hard to diagnose, but inflammation is commonly recognized as a source for the symptoms attributed to autoimmune disorders.
According to the National Institutes of Health via the Medlineplus.gov website, there are upwards of 80 types of autoimmune disorders that can affect virtually anyone, and there is no known absolute cause. For some of these disorders, those at higher risk are African-American women, Hispanic-American women, and Native-American women. Common examples of auto-immune disorders are Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, celiac disease, and multiple sclerosis. For more information check out the links below!
