Coming down with any contagious illness can be alarming, and with the spread of COVID-19, even more so. Our communities want to know if they have the virus, or another illness, not only for themselves, but for their friends and neighbors. The general understanding is that Contact Tracing is a way of tracking people that have had an illness and who that person may have exposed to that illness. The CDC believes that it is one of they keys to stopping the spread of illness and allowing our communities to re-open and remain open.
If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, or have been exposed yourself, it’s most important to inform Close Contacts. Close Contacts are, according to the CDC, “anyone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a total of 15 minutes or more.”
The CDC also notes that a person con be contagious 48 hours before their symptoms begin, and to keep that in mind when making a list of your Close Contacts. If you believe you may need to do some contact tracing of your own, post exposure or diagnosis, be sure to visit the CDC’s resources pages, starting here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/contact-tracing.html.
