Everyone is well aware that COVID-19, combined with our normal flu season, has changed our daily lives. For some people this means masking up and sanitizing as often as possible day in and day out in every environment. For others, it is all that, and then some. In general, the elderly population and those with medical conditions are already at increased risk for severe illness. Per the CDC’s website, here are some additional groups that may need special considerations for how they protect themselves from COVID-19:
- Those who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding
- Those with disabilities
- Racial and ethnic minorities that face specific social health detriments
- Inhabitants of rural areas that face barriers to protective measures and health care
- Those with substance abuse disorders
- Those with developmental or behavioral disorders
- Refugee populations
- Those living in group homes (like nursing homes, rehab facilities, group homes for the disabled)
- Homeless populations
