This week we want to recognize Dr. Virginia McClain, one of our Columbia area Providers!
Dr. McClain has always known that she wanted to work in the medical field. Her family had many physicians, nurses and pharmacists, so she grew up in the medical field.
Dr. McClain completed her undergraduate education in Seattle at the University of Washington where she received her BS in Nursing. After ten years of caring for patients in medical and coronary care nursing, she desired to further her studies in medicine to become a physician.
Dr. McClain attended medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated in 1990. After doing her residency in Internal Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, she finished her Army career at Moncreif Army Community Hospital. She has now been working in Urgent Care medicine for 22 years.
In her spare time, Dr. McClain enjoys the company of her family and good friends, as well as pastimes in cruising, music, golf, and reading good old English cozy murder mysteries by Christie, Beaton, Bowen and others. Unfortunately, the southern heat keeps me from gardening as much as I’d like.
